why live in households
As our culture drifts further away from truth and goodness, many of us are left longing for more. We long for a life of virtue, joy, and purpose that will satisfy our deepest longings for happiness. It's lofty, but when we're honest- it's real. That’s what we all desire, but how do we build a culture like that?
We're proposing that a key answer is household living. At the very heart of our faith lies the belief that we are not created to be alone; we are made to be a gift to another. One day, this will be lived out in our permanent state in life. Until then, it is on us to choose a way of living that forms us for self-gift. While living in community isn't the only way to do this, it is one of the best. There is something particularly stretching about living with people that don't let you settle and who push you constantly to live a life of Christian virtue. It's hard, but it's worth it.
Many young adults are aware of this at some level. Maybe you choose to live with Catholic roommates and desire to live authentically Catholic lives, but then something still seems to be missing. Life gets hectic, the year gets rolling, and all of a sudden it’s February and you haven’t prayed together all year. Oftentimes, the missing ingredient is a roadmap to follow- a common commitment that gives flesh and blood to an ideal.
Wherever you are, God has more. Households are here to help you get there.
